Holetown
Holetown is a small town of Barbados similar to the towns of Speightstown and Oistins. It is located in the parish of St. James on the calm and serene west coast of the island. It is the site where the British landed in Barbados in 1625 when Captain Henry Powell stepped on the island when he was blown off course by a hurricane. Captain Powell was in the service of Sir William Courteen who was a British Trader. Later Captain Powell came back to the island with Sir Courteen and fifty other settlers along with 10 captive Negroes in 1627. This event is celebrated every year as the Holetown Festival.
