Island Hopping in Greece

When hearing the word island and holidays then your mind must travel to Greece right away. A heaven on Earth for travelers and tourists of all budgets and styles, Greece boasts more than 6000 islands, all different among them. The best part about Greece is that most of the islands that have some kind of development are set in complexes with small distances among them. This is a dream coming true for those who wish to visit Greece and get to know as many islands as possible at once; island hopping is almost a sport in Greece, both for locals and tourists.

If you wish for a true Greek experience then visiting some of the islands in the summer is more than essential. It’s mandatory, because the adventure, the fun filled time and the unique experience you will have from a trip like that cannot be described in words. Those who have visited the Greek Islands know what it is about. Greece is the cradle of the Western culture and civilization and visiting the islands is the best way to get to know a tiny part of its history and past.

Water sports, endless beaches, luxury hotels, wonderful settings, picturesque villages and small towns compound the scenery of the Greek Islands. The fortunate part is that if you have a couple of weeks at your disposal to spend in Greece you can visit several islands, taking a small taste – unfortunately small – of many of them. Cyclades is the place to start with. Boasting some of the most beautiful and famous islands, such as Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Naxos, Ios and Amorgos ( remember the island in the ‘Big Blue’?)  are just a few of the almost 500 smaller or bigger islands that compound this complex that lies in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The main characteristic and common finding in these islands are the white brushed houses with the colorful windows and the cobblestone narrow paths and streets that attract the tourists due to their beauty and the unique way they reflect the light. When visiting the Cyclades there are many ways to do some good island hopping: you can either use the local ferry boat transportation or rent a sailing or charter boat and visit the secluded beaches and the bustling ports, choosing each time what you are in the mood for.

Island Hopping in GreeceThe same rule applies to the Dodecanese Complex, as well as the Sporades or the Islands of the Northeast Aegean Sea. Greeks are sailing people and know that there is nothing better than being able to visit easily and quickly many islands and this is something reflected in the sea transportation system: ferry boats, flying dolphins and flying cats ( super fast sea boats) are some of the means that you can use as a visitor in order to jump from an island to the other, visiting as many as you can within your vacation time.

The Greek islands are unique indeed and sometimes the most intriguing parts are the hidden ones; renting a small sailing boat or simple boat is the best way to be autonomous and see some great parts of the islands which will offer you more  secluded and private moments.
